Role-players are the cool kids of the tabletop RPG scene
Charging the dragon, dancing around its fire breath, sliding underneath its spiked tail, then running up the length of its back before plunging a sword into the base of its skull, and felling the beast with a single strike! All done without asking the Game Master or GM a single question. Role-players are not actors but they do ACT! This is what separates the role-player or RP'er apart from the board gamer.
Board gamers are the kids with boogers in their nose
Whipping out their rulers to measure how far they can move in a round or at what range they can cast a fireball. They use the inferior science of battle maps and minis to run their games. They will never experience the truth of how to truly enjoy tabletop RPGs, which is through roleplaying. The calling card of a board gamer is always "Can I..." or "May I...". They always ask questions on their turn instead of immersing themselves in the world the GM has created. Their slew of questions turn the game into a slog-fest. In a just world, the Game Master would begin skipping these players turns.
Unlock the power of pure imagination
If you were wondering how one could rise out of the swamp of board gaming and ascend to the glorious steps of roleplaying, look no further than Theater of the mind. The truly enlightened way to roleplay. No longer will you waste the entire tables time over-analyzing the scene and asking questions totally irrelevant to whatever you are actually about to do. Soon you will be slaying dragons, rescuing maidens, and carrying as much treasure as your grubby little hands can carry. The arcane secret behind roleplaying and using theater of the mind is simple. Do not ask the GM if you can do something, just do it.
